PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) is a high-performance engineering plastic, with excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, and flame retardant properties. From PPS polymer, Toray produces a PPS fiber, called TORCON™
TORCON™ has many different application possibilities for the automotive industry, where the heat resistance and electrical properties of PPS fiber can be fully utilized such as in the components for compressor motors and sleeves. |

|
| Heat resistance: |
| |
TORCON™ has a high melting point of 545F (285C) and is especially suited for extended exposure to temperatures of 374F (190C). It is also excellent in vapor heat resistance, and retains over 90% strength, even in a 320F (160C) autoclave. |
| Chemical resistance: |
| |
The chemical resistance of TORCON™ is as high as that of fluoric fiber. At temperatures of 392F (200C) or less, it maintains stable chemical resistance against most alkalis, organic solvents, and acids (except some kinds of oxidizers such as concentrated nitric acid). |
| Mechanical properties: |
| |
TORCON™ matches polyester in strength, elongation and elasticity. |
| Flame resistance: |
| |
TORCON™ exhibits a high degree of non-flammability and self-extinguishing properties. [LOI (Limited Oxygen Index)=34] |
| Electric properties: |
| |
TORCON™ consistently shows stable electric properties under high temperature, high humidity and high frequency conditions. |
