Toray produces carbon composite driveshaft tubes combining TORAYCA® Carbon Fiber and state-of-the-art filament winding technologies. The composite driveshafts are very strong and stiff, giving excellent performance. However, in the event of a head-on collision, the composite driveshaft easily fractures, and breaks down as shown in the illustration. This significantly reduces the crash load to passengers. Toray's proprietary technology is well proven, which is reflected in the volume of approximately 150,000 composite driveshafts installed in 2004 on new production automobiles
